One of the hardest parts of starting a business is creating awareness about your products and services. Marketing, blogs, content, and social media are all needed but oh so time consuming! It is hard for any entrepreneur to get this right, but maybe even harder for a mompreneur because let’s face it; our time is stretched as it is!
So, with so many demands on our time and resources, what is the best way a mompreneur can create some buzz around her business?
It may be daunting, but a really great (and free!) way is through the media. Here’s why:
Mainstream media may seem daunting and unpredictable (okay, it really is); while you are guaranteed to have your own blog appear on your own website, and for your own updates to appear on social media sites, dealing with mainstream media offers no such guarantee.
And that is why you need to do it: if a journalist publishes your story their readers take notice because it is objective. That’s a huge difference between PR, marketing and advertising (I’m not saying one is better, just different!).
2) Your target audience
You know who your target audience is: maybe other moms, teachers, or someone completely different. Trying to find them can be difficult, but a sure fire way is to target what they are reading (or listening to or watching); they are gathered around some television or radio broadcast or print publication. Find the media outlets your market follows; mainstream media has a loyal audience, if you find the right media, you will find your target market.

3) Become a thought leader
What a daunting idea: become a thought leader. Lead the industry. Make your mark. But you CAN do it! When your article has appears, and you reach your audience you have just established yourself as a thought leader. How? Assuming you have some decent writing skills, found a strong news angle, and pitched to the right person at the right publication, you can be sure that you will be remembered the next time a similar topic arises and you will be asked to comment on similar stories.
